Biography

Ms. Southard is the Research Operations Manager for Sequim’s Marine Research Operations (MRO), a combination of the Marine Sciences Laboratory and Coastal Security Institute. Ms. Southard joined Battelle in 1994, working out of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington. She joined the Sequim organization in 1999. Ms. Southard helps maximize the operating efficiency at the MRO by providing technical support to managers, researchers, and staff. Areas of responsibility within Operations include quality, chemical management, waste management, training, environmental protection, radiological protection, industrial safety, property management, computer security, office moves, self assessments, facility postings, safety, security planning, operational reviews, and audits. Ms. Southard’s background is in ecology and fisheries. She is also a research diver for the laboratory, performing freshwater and marine habitat and population assessments, underwater photography and videography. She has fifteen years’ experience working at PNNL as a research scientist on seagrass restoration and habitat monitoring and also juvenile salmonid passage issues.
